A woman with a aching tooth

If you have TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder) it is a dysfunction of your TMJ (Temporomandibular joint). The exact cause of your TMD is probably unknown but it can be linked to many factors such as grinding, injury, arthritis, stress and irregular movement in your jaw such as grinding or clenching.

TMD is a very painful disorder. It can also cause unpleasant popping and clicking sounds that can be heard in your jaw region from time to time. TMD is a result of your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) being displaced.

If you have TMD, there are some temporary ways you can find some relief from the pain and discomfort you are experiencing.

  • A warm cloth applied to your jaw region may provide temporary relief.
  • Ensure you are keeping good posture. Poor posture can put a greater load on other muscles in your body, including your TMJ.
  • Try applying essential oils such as peppermint oil, frankincense and lavender for reduction of inflammation and relaxation of muscles.

These methods can help give temporary relief, but do not necessarily correct your TMD all of the time. The best way to treat your TMD is to visit an expert such as those at ConfiDENT. We will help you diagnose why you are having pain in your jaw and then we will work hard to find a lasting solution to your problem and pain.

Contact ConfiDENT today if you are suffering from tooth or jaw pain. The earlier you get treatment, the more conservative your treatment options can be.
